US Armed Forces Executes Lethal Strike in Pacific, Leading to 4 Fatalities

According to a high-ranking military official, the US armed forces executed a lethal strike on a vessel in the Pacific Ocean, killing four people.

“A US joint task force conducted a deadly attack on a craft operated by a Designated Terrorist Organization in open sea. Intelligence confirmed the vessel was traveling along a known drug smuggling route and was engaged in illicit drug transport. A total of four male narco-terrorists were eliminated, and no American forces were injured.”

Context and Recent Actions

This announcement follows a day after a declaration regarding a naval blockade of all sanctioned oil tankers entering and leaving Venezuela. That statement on social media, the US president alleged Venezuela of using oil profits to fund drug trafficking and criminal activities, pledging to increase the military buildup.

Just on Tuesday, the Pentagon said it had conducted strikes on three boats it accused of trafficking drugs in the Pacific, killing eight people. Beginning on 2 September, more than 20 military engagements have killed at least 99 people, the majority off the coast of Venezuela.

Government Defends Tactics Amidst Pressure

The administration has faced increasing pressure to release video of a 2 September vessel attack. But, the defense secretary have declined to do so. The administration has supported its efforts as a success, arguing it has prevented drugs from entering US shores and has pushed back on concerns that it is stretching the limits of lawful warfare.

Although the administration has stated the operation is about stopping drugs destined for the US, remarks from a top official seemed to confirm a wider political objective. In a recent interview, the senior advisor said the leader “wants to keep on blowing boats up until Venezuela's president surrenders or concedes.”

This indicates the series of strikes may be part of a push to remove Venezuela's current leadership.
