This Special Release Pikachu Promo Seeks to Curb the Influence Against Resellers

To celebrate the arrival of the fascinating new book Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology, an exciting partnership is underway. The Pokémon Company and the Natural History Museum will launch a pop-up shop stocked with special merchandise. Enthusiasts will find offerings including plush toys, art prints, and writing supplies all drawing from the institution's theme. The big draw, though, is a specially made Pikachu card, given as a gift with purchase at the pop-up. This shop will operate both the physical location and online from January 26 to April 19.

The Book That Inspires the Partnership

Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology represents a much-awaited volume filled with stunning illustrations depicting creatures in their natural habitats. It's essentially like what a Pokémon Professor might publish after adventurers submit their data, or a naturalist's journal might have created if the Galapagos were populated by Pidgeys instead of finches. A key appeal stems from the book's serious approach, presenting Pokémon as a legitimate scientific study. Author Yoshinari Yonehara together with artist Chihiro Kinoshita both hold PhDs in ecology and behavioral science.

What Makes This Special Card Different

It is common to issue special edition cards celebrating major tournaments and crossover partnerships. Many of these collector items often feature the iconic electric rodent that acts as the series face. The factor setting this latest museum card is its unusually large size. While exact measurements have not been immediately shared, availability will certainly be highly restricted, and customers limited to just one card with each transaction.

Curbing Speculator Activity

According to an official announcement, some of the pop-up items may also be available beyond the institution itself. But, a wider release is slated for select retailers in the United Kingdom. Critically, collectors cannot acquire the card via the official web shop. While speculator demand is a given, the setup suggests they're going to have trouble hoarding mass quantities on this occasion. If you're unable to attend, consider the upcoming fossil-themed display coming to Chicago later this year.

"All profits from purchases from the Museum shop and its online store, including these items, go toward the Natural History Museum’s non-profit work. This includes the research of 400 scientists who are conducting studies and finding solutions to the planetary emergency," it says.
