The skiing legend Confident of Being 'perfectly positioned' for Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics

American skiing icon Lindsey Vonn has declared she will be "in a good place" for the Milan-Cortina Olympics, after earning a top-three finish for the fourth time in her last five World Cup events.

The 41-year-old, who last week set a record by becoming the most senior racer to win a downhill World Cup winner, came in third place in the super giant slalom in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This represented her one hundred and forty-second career World Cup top-three result.

Impressive Performance in Val d'Isere

Competing at the French Alps resort for the first occasion in eight years, Vonn crossed the line in a time of one minute 20.60 seconds. She was just over a third of a second behind victor Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson taking second place.

"I didn't quite have enough direction on the first jump," the skier commented. "From that point on, I skied well. I'm pleased with my performance today, unlike in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was overly cautious."

This result was her second podium at Val d'Isere during the event, having also finished third in the downhill on Saturday.

A Remarkable Comeback from Retirement

Vonn officially retired in early 2019 because of persistent injuries. However, she made a stunning return in December 2024 after a major knee surgery.

With 47 days remaining until the 2026 Winter Games, which are set to run from February 6th to the 22nd, Vonn's performances are timely.

She already possesses an Olympic gold and two bronze medals from previous Games and is strongly positioned to compete for the United States at the 2026 Games.

"At the Olympics, I will be where I need to be," Vonn affirmed.

Aiming for Further Glory

Alongside her Olympic ambitions, Vonn is also hoping to add to the four overall crystal globes she has accumulated over a career spanning 20 years.

She currently holds a substantial lead at the summit of the downhill World Cup rankings and is ranked fifth in the super-G World Cup table.

This current World Cup circuit includes a total of nine races scheduled before the season finals in Kvitfjell, Norway on 21 March 2026.
