A campaign is aiming to send a traditional song from Palestine to the top of the UK charts. The effort aims to send support to people in Gaza while also spotlighting Palestinian cultural expression.
Renowned figure Brian Eno, who performs on the track, stated that the song titled Lullaby represents a moment to show solidarity with Palestinians during the holidays. He noted the potential for an unexpected chart success.
“It would be incredible if that occurred, yes,” he commented. “I wouldn't be completely disheartened if it doesn’t, holiday tracks are a unique phenomenon.”
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who sings on the reimagining of a traditional lullaby called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the song's defiant core message.
“It has a deeply meaningful spot for many individuals,” Barghouti said. “It’s basically saying that I would choose to perish with honor than exist without freedom. This is the primary message of the song; we seek to lead a dignified life that we merit as a people.”
The song was recorded following a solidarity show held in the autumn. Originally intended to be captured during the live event, the piece was shelved during the concert due to time constraints.
The diverse array of musicians appearing on Lullaby features a group of prominent voices from the music world. All took part in the benefit event, which reportedly raised a substantial amount for charitable causes.
Lullaby was crafted by a group of producers and composers. The song features a mix of the heritage language with new English lyrics.
The team running the project have emphasized that their aim is to collect the highest amount for a charitable pot. These donations will be allocated to projects in Palestine through an established charity.
“There is no a fixed goal,” a figure explained. “We’ll go for the maximum achievable. Obviously, the greater the amount, the better. It all goes out to the people of Gaza.”
The reality in the territory was noted for its extreme devastation, with a vast majority of infrastructure reportedly in ruins or severely impacted.
“Against that backdrop, a few million is unlikely to make a massive dent. But I think what truly matters is above all spreading knowledge of this plight and demonstrating that another narrative exists.”
The single 'Lullaby' is scheduled for release this Friday. Additionally, a video of the charity concert will be made available for streaming on a popular streaming site from later in the month.
