The network's Premier New Show of 2025 Secures a Major Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.

Last October, Adult Swim welcomed back its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. However, shortly thereafter, the channel launched a fresh animated series with a markedly softer feel. Haha, You Clowns emerged as gentle and comforting, in the spirit of a animated take of a laid-back talk show. At a time often marked by cynicism, this show's sincerity found an audience and helped it become a surprise hit.

A Significant Investment

In mid-December, the network confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two additional seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to develop the story of the Campbell family. The series follows three polite teenage brothers whose central trait is their strong bond for their single father, with Cappa voicing for all four central characters.

"I’m so grateful to the audience of the show who took a chance on the show and helped it grow," remarked Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for seasons to come."

A President's Endorsement

In the same announcement commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and oddly captivating." He shouted out the fans who found the show and advocated for its distinctly quirky sensibility.

"All of you got behind this new show, praised it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Comforting Counterpoint

When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a comforting antidote" to other adult animated fare. There’s something unexpectedly cozy about following this lovable family navigate their simple existence.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa expressed his hope to evolve comedy past its long-running cynical streak. He attributed this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we keep returning to,” noted Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we just have to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

What Comes Next

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa has the opportunity to catalyze that very evolution. Or at the very least, the renewal ensures audiences additional episodes to bask in the heartfelt moments of the unique Campbell clan.

The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. All episodes is currently streaming on HBO Max.
