Slot Maintains He Is Safe and Has Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Defeat

The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it was understandable for concerns to be asked about his future following another heavy defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.

Liverpool suffered their ninth loss in twelve matches, representing the team's worst run since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.

They were dominated by the Eredivisie champions on a difficult night at their home ground.

“I'm confident, I'm fine, I've received plenty of backing from above,” the coach stated.

“It would be great to change things and secure a win of course but when you're in a managerial role and underperforming then it's expected that questions are asked.”

He noted, “I accept my situation. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a difficult position but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”

Talks with Club Management

When asked to elaborate on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot explained:

“We talk a lot. They assist to the team and for me and we have those conversations but they don’t call me all the time of the day to say they have faith in me.”

He further stated, “Through standard discussions I feel the confidence. However I haven’t spoken to them after this match yet so it remains to be seen.”

Persistent Problems and Squad Response

Slot lamented recurring weaknesses from his squad in their Champions League loss, namely wasted chances and leaking goals.

Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the club’s predicament.

“I don’t have the answers. Frankly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everyone,” the midfielder remarked.

“It's simply unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to think about it. I'm beyond being angry inside. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the words.”

He added, “It's tough because I’m playing for the team I support. I support them, and I’ve seen Liverpool all my life.”

“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Reds side going through a phase such as this with performances this poor.”

He stated, “But we continue to wear the emblem on our shirts. And as long as that badge is gone, we will always battle.”

“Our aim is to bring this squad back to its rightful place, demonstrate to all again what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the best team in the world.”

“However currently, things are bad and it needs to change.”
