'Our Mission Consists of Solely Killing' - The Way Sudan's Ruthless Fighting Force Conducted a Mass Killing

Combatants chuckle as they travel on the bed of a pick-up truck, hurrying by a row of nine corpses and heading facing the descending Sudanese sun.

"Look at all this effort. Observe this act of genocide," a combatant cheers.

He beams as he turns the recording device on his own face and his fellow combatants, their Rapid Support Forces insignia clearly shown: "These people shall all be killed like this."

These individuals are rejoicing over a mass killing that humanitarian officials suspect killed more than two thousand individuals in the Sudanese metropolis of al-Fashir in recent weeks.

A City Isolated from the World

Following their control of the urban area under blockade for nearly an extended period, from the summer the RSF advanced to strengthen its control and restrict the remaining inhabitants.

Satellite images show that fighters commenced to erect a massive berm - a built-up sand barrier - around the boundaries of al-Fashir, blocking access routes and blocking relief supplies.

During the encirclement escalated, multiple civilians were murdered in an RSF strike on a mosque on 19 September, while the UN reported 53 more were slain in unmanned aircraft and artillery bombardments on a displacement camp in fall.

Disturbing Recording Depicts Unarmed Individuals Gunned Down

By sunrise on 26 October the militia conquered the final army defenses and captured the main base in the community, the headquarters of the Army Division, as the government forces withdrew.

Among the most graphic videos to emerge and studied revealed the aftermath of a mass killing at a campus structure on the western of the city, where scores lifeless forms were visible scattered throughout the ground.

A senior man clad in a traditional garment was seated isolated amid the bodies. He turned to glance as a fighter armed with a rifle walked along the steps towards the individual. lifting his firearm, the fighter fired a one shot at the victim, who fell to the floor lifeless.

"How come is this one even alive," a fighter shouted. "Shoot this person."

Space-based imagery recorded on 26 October seemed to confirm that killings were also conducted on the streets of al-Fashir, based on a study issued by the academic research center.

One observer who spoke said they had observed "multiple of our kin getting killed - the victims were assembled in a specific area and all murdered."

Militia Commanders Attempt to Carry Out Reputation Management

Following the events that came after the killings, paramilitary chief acknowledged that his troops had perpetrated "wrongdoings" and announced the incidents would be examined.

Among those detained was subsequent to a investigation detailing his executions. Carefully staged and edited footage posted on the militia's official messaging channel show the commander being taken into a cell at a prison on the perimeter of the city.

At the same time, the RSF and associated social media channels began seeking to reframe the account.

Content presenting its fighters distributing assistance to civilians were circulated by various individuals, while the force's media office published multiple recordings claiming to demonstrate the compassionate treatment of government detainees.

In spite of the online effort being employed by the RSF, their activities in al-Fashir have generated worldwide anger.
