Iran Claims Assault on American Facility in the Kingdom of Bahrain, As Part of Regional Counterattacks.

Iranian forces say they have struck a US naval base in Manama, as Iran launched operations throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a large-scale and ongoing attack targeting the nation by the US and Israel.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an zone close to the headquarters of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The scope of any destruction is unclear and the American officials has not commented.

Airspace Engagements

Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait - all home to American military installations - reported they have intercepted incoming projectiles in their airspace.

In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry stated it had intercepted a number of projectiles apparently targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American base in the Middle East.

Iran's Declared Retaliation

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard stated it was attacking US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the attack on Iran initiated by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday morning.

That US-Israeli operation - executed at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far targeted locations linked to the Iranian leadership, with US President Donald Trump urging the Iranian people to revolt against the government.

Wider Impacts

In the State of Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israeli military reported it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.

The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates announced that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems dealt with the missiles with great effectiveness and destroyed a series of missiles," the statement continued.

The statement noted missile fragments landed in a populated district in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some property damage and fatalities.

The United States Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
