Indeed, it's Packed with Gibberish, Extreme Hosting and Psychobabble. Yet I Truly Cherish Meghan's Holiday Special.

No concerned with the time of year, it's always fair game for criticism on the Meghan Markle's televisual offering, With Love, Meghan. Reviewers, expert and amateur alike, have hardly ever agreed so completely as when enthusiastically shredding the lifestyle show's earlier episodes to shreds. The prevailing view held that a more egregious regal scandal had hardly ever taken place than the now-infamous snack re-labeling incident.

Currently, as a festive rebel, she makes a comeback for another round with a "Festive Special" (or a Christmas special). But this time, the dynamic has changed. The standard components viewers are accustomed to – vague self-help platitudes, intense hospitality – are still present, but within the context of a holiday show, the purpose becomes clear. The pieces have fallen perfectly; it's a ideal seasonal storm.

At this stage, Meghan is like the quirky relative at Christmas celebrations everywhere – dispensing random tips, and contributing the occasional strange exclamation. ("I love spinach!" … "A tradition has to have a beginning." … "A tree is part of my memory and love of the holiday season.") She's quite a personality, but her presence is familiar and strangely comforting. And she looks content; she's not doing any harm.

She knows her every micro expression, word and look will be picked apart and judged, but manages to seem carefree and too blessed to be stressed.

Maybe this is the first occasion in history where that well-worn saying – "Ignore them, they're just jealous" – might be true. Because, you know what?, all aspects in Meghan's Holiday Celebration honestly feels delightful. Granted, it's all cringily ultra-extra, nonsense and over the top – but isn't that precisely what Yuletide is about? And the words she speaks might be ridiculous, but the example she sets genuinely looks beautifully curated.

Anything she attempts, she executes with style. Her cooking looks delicious, the holiday arrangement she crafts is stunning, her gifts are nearly too beautiful to unwrap. Not a single thing is mediocre or visually unappealing – even the way she secures her apron is stylish and elegant. She doesn't toss a dish in the microwave, it "takes a twirl", and she creases gift paper like an paper-folding expert. She also seems to be genuinely relishing herself throughout. How could any cynical observer not be charmed, overcome by holiday spirit and left with a powerful yearning for handmade crackers or a vegetable display where broccoli is positioned in the form of a festive circle?

Meghan was once an actress for a living, obviously, but despite that, after the intensity of attention she has endured since she became involved with Prince Harry, the love child of Meryl Streep and Judi Dench would have difficulty behaving this naturally. Her unwillingness to alter or even tone down her persona, regardless of it being so relentlessly, widely parodied, is weirdly comforting. In our unpredictable world, here is something we can rely on: Meghan will remain herself, no matter what. We will consistently know what to expect with her.

If you're not yet convinced by what she's selling, a reminder that will certainly come as a relief: you aren't required to. There isn't national service anymore, and were it to return, it would be doubtful to include viewing With Love, Meghan: Holiday Celebration. If, conversely, you willingly check it out and are overcome with jealousy about her idyllic Christmas, all is not lost either. If you are a royal or a data administrator, hardly any child completely grasps the dedication and labor their mother does in December. So you can find comfort by envisioning Archie and Lilibet's faces when they open a calligraphy note that says, 'I love you because you are brave,' from a homemade Advent calendar, instead of a sweet treat.
