Turning to the American Football Conference, championship race remains completely chaotic. The current division frontrunners at this stage: the Colts, Patriots, Broncos (all at 8-2) and the Steelers (5-4 record). Read that again. Kansas City isn't there. Not the Bills. Neither Ravens nor Bengals. The usual contenders, featuring elite NFL signal-callers, have either significant personnel gaps or have suffered medical setbacks.

Indianapolis Colts

He took seven sacks against the Falcons in the weekend game, and had a brief period where he delivered an interception and coughed up the ball thrice. This is a week after he turned the ball over five times versus Pittsburgh.

The Colts attack performed well initially since Jones evaded game-changing errors. Jonathan Taylor and the offensive line make the Colts capable of overcoming some negative plays, as they did in Berlin. Yet Jones going back to his previous error-filled form would terminate any playoff run.

New England Patriots

The Patriots seem somewhat similar. A year ago, they were league laughingstocks. Now, they’re football's most unexpected success and the hottest team across the league post seven wins in a row. Except for fumbling away a contest they should have won against Pittsburgh, they’d be sitting nine wins, one loss with the best record. Previously, they seemed veteran and plodding. Today they appear young, fast and unafraid. Nevertheless, one cannot overlook the weakness of New England's opponents. They've encountered the least challenging lineup across the NFL, yet vulnerabilities remain. Drake Maye has been sacked 35 times – the second-most in football – with several hits he endured during the game proved brutal. As the season progresses, that punishment compounds.

Denver Broncos

The Broncos hold also 8-2, yet it seems that they're barely surviving. The Denver signal-caller has performed unevenly, and the offense plodding, with the defense doing most of the responsibility. Absent adequate signal-calling, Denver cannot intimidate anyone in the postseason. The Chargers are also hovering in the Western division at 7-2, yet medical problems within their blocking corps will create difficulties to achieve championship contention.

Pittsburgh Steelers

Meanwhile, Pittsburgh exists, somehow still leading the Northern division even after suffering a 25-10 defeat from the Chargers in the evening game. They've been outscored overall, their defense regularly vanishes, and the QB's current constraints during his career phase persistently appear. They maintain a 5-4 record while surviving, yet Baltimore, with their QB returning to health with manageable games ahead, are riding a three-game streak. We shouldn't be completely astonished that Baltimore has closed to within one game of Pittsburgh, but how rapidly this occurred highlights deficiencies within the Steelers' uneven performances. The fact Baltimore began with a 1-5 record and still look like they should win the division is telling about the conference as a whole.

Historical Favorites

The Ravens' form part among three elite teams – joined by Buffalo and Kansas City – powered by their MVP quarterbacks, who would still strike the highest anxiety among competitors should they reach postseason. They represent undesirable playoff matchups, yet Kansas City and Buffalo persistently undermine themselves.

Buffalo Analysis

Previously, Buffalo was celebrating post Chiefs triumph. On Sunday they suffered one of the most disappointing losses this year. They didn’t just lose versus the Dolphins; they looked terrible, dropping a 30-13 road game. The Dolphins secured their first triumph over the Bills in more than 1,000 days.
