Both Deceased Students Revealed in Brown University Attack as Authorities Persist in Search for Gunman.

The pair of scholars who died in the recent tragic incident in Providence were honored at the start of the week – amid a widespread hunt for their shooter continued following the freeing by Rhode Island officials of the sole person questioned in the case.

Tributes for Ella Cook

The student Ella Cook, a second-year student from Alabama, was remembered as “a wonderful, steady, devout, shining presence”, as stated by the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Birmingham, which paid tribute to her at a service on Sunday.

Cook was the vice-presidency of Brown’s branch of the campus GOP group, as the club stated. Karoline Leavitt also expressed sympathies publicly, saying in part: “It's indescribable. Remembering her family and friends, especially her parents.”

The Second Victim

The second fatality was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov from Uzbekistan, from Uzbekistan in his freshman year at the Ivy League university, family members said.

Umurzokov’s identity was verified by Uzbekistan’s foreign ministry.

“He was incredibly kind, funny, and smart. He had big dreams of entering the field of neurosurgery and assisting patients,” Samira Umurzokova, his sister said in a tribute.

The Shooting Incident

Nine other people were wounded in the weekend shooting in the engineering building of Brown’s campus in Providence, during the institution's end-of-term tests.

Law enforcement reported by the end of Sunday that a man aged 24 arrested in a police operation at a Hampton Inn about approximately 17 miles from the campus earlier in the day was released from custody.

“A perpetrator remains free,” stated Peter Neronha, Peter Neronha.

He continued, “Sometimes you head in one direction, and then you must reassess and go in another, and this is precisely what occurred over the last 24 hours or so.”

Ongoing Concerns

Providence’s mayor, Brett Smiley, admitted: “It is expected to provoke renewed concern for our community”.

The shooter opened fire inside a classroom in the engineering facility on over the weekend, discharging in excess of 40 shots from a 9mm handgun, a police source told the media outlet.

Law enforcement that searched the hotel found a pair of pistols and magazines when the individual was detained, the news agency reported.

The Wounded Victims

Among those wounded, one pupil was allowed to go home, stated Brown’s president, Christina Paxson. An additional seven were in grave but unchanging health, and another was critically ill, authorities stated on Sunday.

Durham Academy, a private academy in Durham, North Carolina, said a recent graduate, Kendall Turner, was one of the critically injured.

Additional Memorials

Tributes were paid to Cook at a church service in Birmingham on Sunday. A reverend stated, “Her presence was a wonderful, steady, pious glow not only here growing up... but at Brown University she was a radiant presence in that particular place as well.”

A group leader, Martin Bertao, shared a message from the organization. “Ella was recognized for her courageous, valiant, and compassionate nature as she aided her club and fellow classmates,” he said.

The US ambassador, Jonathan Henick, said he was “profoundly grieved” by Umurzokov’s death in a tribute. “We extend our sincere condolences to Mr Umurzokov’s family, companions, and schoolmates and mourn the loss of his bright future.”

The fatal shooting at Brown, the seventh oldest in the US higher education institution with about 7,300 undergraduate and three thousand graduate students, occurred during one of at least nearly 400 mass shootings documented across the United States so far in this year, according to data.
